Troubleshooting: Webex Not Working in Courses Copied from Semesters Prior to Fall 2024

Symptoms

Prior to Fall 2024, Webex was integrated into the Blackboard LMS utilizing the Education Connector/LTI Legacy and a tool link usually labeled "WebEx". 

At the end of the Summer 2024 semester, the tool was upgrade to a new LTI 1.3 (Webex LTI) integration, and the new tool link is "Webex 1.3".

Courses copied from semesters prior to Fall 2024 may still contain the old link. During attempts to authorize the link between Webex and Blackboard, the following error may be displayed:

Resolution

The solution is to remove the old tool link and replace it with a link to the updated tool.

1. Authenticate to https://lms.rpi.edu using your RCSID and password, then open the course.
2. On the side menu, click the drop down next to Webex and then select Delete.
   
   
   
3. At the top of the side menu, click the + symbol, then select Tool Link from the drop-down menu.
   
   
   
4. Fill in the Add Tool Link dialog box, by selecting "Type" as Webex 1.3. It is recommended to use the name Webex 1.3 to differentiate from the old version. Select to make the tool available to users, then click Submit.
   
   
   
5. Click the new Webex 1.3 link on the sidebar in order to set up the tool.
