Overview
Compatible devices must support speeds of 12 megabits per second or higher. The following lists include the specific devices which are currently known to work — or will not work — with rpi_netreg. We are currently awaiting feedback on the "Untested" devices to determine which of them do, or do not, work with rpi_netreg.

In addition to the devices listed above, any device which does not support 12 megabits per second will not work.
Procedure — How to find your MAC Address
Please follow the instructions below to find the MAC Address of your game console or streaming device.
A valid MAC Address will have the format of twelve hexadecimal numbers, generally separated by colons (ex: 01:23:4D:67:B9:0A).
Nintendo Consoles
Nintendo DS
To locate the MAC address from a Nintendo DS, you must first insert a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection compatible game and access the WFC Setup Utility. Please note that the exact steps to access the setup utility varies by game. However, the setup utility is a standard menu, included with all WFC-compatible games.
After accessing the utility, tap Options, then System Information.
The MAC address and Nintendo WFC ID will be listed on the screen. Unless the game player has successfully connected with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, the WFC ID will be blank.
Nintendo 3DS
To locate the MAC address of your 3DS:
- From the HOME menu, highlight and select the System Settings icon.
- Select Internet Settings.
- Tap Other Information.
- Tap Confirm MAC Address. Your system's MAC address will be displayed on the screen.
Nintendo Switch
To locate the MAC address of your Switch:
- From the HOME menu, select the System Settings icon.
- Scroll through the menu and select Internet.
- Your system's MAC address will be displayed on the screen next to System Mac Address.
Nintendo Wii U
To locate the MAC address of your Wii U console:
- From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.
- Using the left stick, select the Internet icon and press the A button.
- Select View MAC Address and wait a moment for the MAC Address to be displayed.
Sony Consoles
Playstation 3
To locate the MAC address of your Playstation 3 console:
- From the main menu, select Settings.
- Select System Settings.
- Select System Information.
- The MAC address will then be displayed on the screen.
Playstation 4
To locate the MAC Address of your Playstation 4 console:
- Arrow up and over to Settings in the PS4 menu.
- Scroll down to Network.
- Scroll down to View Connection Status.
- The MAC address will be listed next to MAC Address.
Playstation 5
- Power on the PS5 without a disc in the system.
- In the PS5 menu, arrow up and select Settings.
- Scroll down to Network.
- Scroll down to View Connection Status.
- The MAC Address will be listed next to the MAC Address (LAN) and MAD Address (Wi-Fi).
Microsoft Consoles
Xbox 360
To locate the MAC address of your Xbox 360 console:
- Navigate to My Xbox on the Xbox Dashboard.
- Select System Settings.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Configure Network.
- Under Basic Settings, check to make sure the IP Settings option is set to Automatic.
- Go to Additional Settings.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- The MAC addresses for the wired and wireless adapters should be displayed.
Xbox One
To locate the MAC address of your Xbox One console:
- Navigate to My Games and Apps.
- Select Settings.
- Select Network.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- The MAC addresses for the wired and wireless adapters should be displayed.
Xbox Series X
To locate the MAC Address of your Xbox Series X console:
- Navigate to General.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Look on the right side of the screen to find the Wireless MAC Address.
Streaming Devices
Roku
To locate the MAC address of your Roku:
- On the back on your Roku, there are a pair of six two-digit pairs separated by colons, e.g. 00:0D:0A:1H:3G:5C. One set is for the Ethernet connector and the other is for the wireless connector.
- Alternatively, from the Roku home screen, select settings > player info. The addresses will be listed on-screen.
Smart TV/Blu-ray Player
To locate the MAC address of your Smart TV or Bluray Player:
- Most MAC Addresses will be visible in the Settings menu, either under the Network or About sections.
- Alternatively, check with the manufacturer for instructions on how to obtain the MAC address for your specific model.
Amazon Devices
On some devices it is difficult to get to the interface to determine the MAC address which is needed to use rpi_netreg or to submit a request to have a device manually added. For example the Amazon Smart Plug.
- The device must be registered to their Amazon account. If someone purchased it for them and did not choose that it was a gift, that person may need to de-register it from their account first.
- Have them call Amazon at 1-888-280-4331 to speak to a representative or email cis@amazon.com. When calling in, you will be greeted by an automated response, which will ask for your name and phone number. Then, the automated representative will tell you a time frame in which you can expect to receive a call back.
- They should advise the Amazon customer service representative that they need the MAC address of their registered device -- specifying which device they need this for.
Echo Dot
- Download the Amazon Alexa app to your phone or computer and sign in with your Amazon account.
- Connect to the wireless network transmitted by your Echo device.
- The wireless MAC address for your Echo can be found at the bottom of the Echo Setup screen in the Alexa app.
Procedure — How to connect to RPI_NETREG
Nintendo Consoles
Nintendo 3DS
- From the HOME menu, tap on the System Settings icon.
- Tap Internet Settings.
- Tap Connection Settings.
- Tap the New Connection option.
- When the prompt asks if you would like help with the Internet connection setup, tap Manual Setup.
- Tap Manual Setup again.
- Enter the ssid rpi_netreg .
- Enter None for encryption type/password
- Tap OK to save your settings.
- Tap OK again to begin a connection test.
Wii U
- From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.
- Using the left stick, select the Internet icon and press the A button.
- Tap Connect to the Internet.
- Tap Connection Types or press the Y button.
- Select Manual Configuration.
- Tap SSID and enter your rpi_netreg .
- Tap Security and select encryption method: None.
- Tap the arrow on the right and select IP Address.
- Tap Auto-Obtain.
- When finished, tap Save or press the B button.
- Tap Save again.
- Tap Connection Test to test your connection.
- Tap OK if the connection test was successful.
- If you wish to set this network as your default network, tap Set.
Sony Consoles
Playstation 3
- Select Settings, then Network Settings.
- Select Internet Connection Settings.
- When a confirmation screen is displayed stating that you will be disconnected from the Internet, select Yes.
- Select Custom.
- Make a wireless connection via a wireless LAN.
- Specify the access point by entering its SSID manually using a keyboard. Use the SSID rpi_netreg.
- Set the encryption key to None.
- Set the data transfer rate to Auto-Detect.
- Set the IP Address Setting to “Automatic”.
- Set the DHCP host name, select Do Not Set.
- Set the DNS server to Automatic.
- Set the MTU value to Automatic.
- Set the Proxy Server to Do Not Use.
Playstation 4
- Press the PlayStation button.
- Select the Settings menu.
- Select Network.
- Select Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select either Wifi or LAN Cable, as appropriate to your network.
- Select Custom.
- Enter rpi_netreg as the network name, and leave the password blank.
- Select Automatic.
- Select Save.
Microsoft Consoles
Xbox 360
- From the Dashboard, select Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Specify Unlisted Network, and enter rpi_netreg.
- Select your wireless security type: No Security.
- Select Done to return to the main network screen.
- Select Test Xbox Live Connection.
- Select Yes if you are prompted to update the console software.
Xbox One

Streaming Devices
Roku/Smart TV/Blu-ray Player
Please consult your device manual or manufacturer's support site for specific instructions.
