Overview
Thunderbird is a free and open-source cross-platform email client
Procedure
- Open Thunderbird
- Click Menu at the upper right (3 bars)
- Click Account Settings…
- Click Account Actions
- Click Add Mail Account…
- Enter Your Name (whatever you want to show up on sent emails)
- Enter your email (rcs_id@rpi.edu)
- Enter your password
- Check the Remember password box
- Click Continue
- At Authentication failed enter in Your login your username: win\RCSuserid
- Click Continue
- Click Configure manually
- Incoming:
- First dropdown should be IMAP
- Server hostname should be exchange.rpi.edu
- Port should be 993
- SSL should be SSL/TLS
- Authentication should be Normal Password
- Username should be: win\RCSuserid
- Outgoing:
- Server hostname should be exchange.rpi.edu
- Port should be 587
- SSL should be STARTTLS
- Authentication should be Normal Password
- Username should be: win\RCSuserid
- Click Advanced config
- Click OK on Confirm Advanced Configuration box
NOTE: Additional Thunderbird configuration step for version 78 or newer:
- Close Account Settings box
- Click on the Menu -- upper right (3 bars)
- Go to Options -> General tab on left -> scroll all the way to to the bottom to click on Config Editor
- Click on I accept the risk
- In the search, put in security.tls.version.min -> press Enter -> change value to 1
- Close Options
Send a test message.
