Overview
Below are the steps on how to create and Edit an Assignment in LMS along with how to create Assignments to use with SafeAssign (compares submitted assignments against a set of academic papers to recognize areas of overlap)
Procedures
Before you begin, make sure Edit Mode is ON, which is located in the upper right-hand corner of your course.
Creating an Assignment
To create an assignment:
1. Click on Assignments in the left-hand menu which we created in the LMS Basics 101 session. The Assignment page will display on the right-side of the page.
2. Hover over Assessment, scroll to and click Assignment from the drop-down menu.
3. Type a name for the assignment in the Name Text box. Type instructions for the assignment, if any, in the Instructions text box.
4. Add an attachment, the assignment details, by clicking on Browse My Computer. A window will pop up where you can navigate to the Syllabus on your computer. Once the file is located, either double click the file or single click and then click Open.
Another option is to drag the file from your computer into the dashed line area in the Attach Files area and click submit.
5. Set a Due date and time for the assignment.
6. Set a grade for the assignment by typing a number in the Points Possible text box.
Optional and advanced: You may also create a rubric by clicking Add Rubric and selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. You may add an existing rubric, create a new rubric, or you can create from an existing rubric using that rubric as a template.
Note: Keep the checkbox for Make the Assignment Available or the assignment won’t be viewable by the students.
Optional: You may limit availability of the assignment being viewable by the students by adding a date and time for the Limit Availability section.
7. Click Submit.
A Success: Assignment created message bar will appear at the top of the window. You will also see the assignment listed.
Once the Assignment is created, this also creates a corresponding column in the Grade Center labeled the same name as you set for the Assignment name.
Edit an Assignment
To make any changes to the Assignment:
1. Click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the Assignment name. A pop-out window will appear.
2. Scroll to and click Edit.
This will bring you back to the same screen you used to create the assignment.
