Overview
Advanced monitoring of a server (such as disk space usage) is best performed via a client application on to the server itself. DotCIO recommends the usage of the Nagios Cross-Platform Agent (NCPA) for this task as it installs easily, uses very little system resources, and works on both Windows and Linux.
This article will guide you through the installation of the NCPA on to your server.
Visit the NCPA web page to learn more about the agent.
Procedures
- Review the “Detailed NCPA Installation Guide” published by Nagios Enterprises. This provides you with the bulk of the instructions.
- Review DotCIO's “Installing NCPA on a Server” document. This document provides some annotations to the Installation Guide that are critical to properly using NCPA at RPI.
- Install and test the Agent.
- Follow the instructions in the “How to Add a New Server or Test to Nagios” article to submit a request to have the server added to Nagios.
