View Submissions
You can access submissions to grade by using one of three methods.
- Within the course, the first is by accessing submissions from the item in the course content outline.
- The second is by accessing submissions from the gradebook submissions page.
- The third way is by accessing the global grades from the base navigation menu.
No matter which of these methods you choose, you will grade from the submissions page. Let's take a look at how to use these methods to access the submissions page.
Access from the Assignment pages
When viewing a gradable item in your course, you are able to view submissions by selecting the submissions link located in the gradable item. This takes you to the submissions page. For some items, the name of this link may vary. For example, a graded discussion has a Participation and Grades link instead of a submissions link.
Access from the Gradebook
You can open the gradebook for the course from the course tools. From the course gradebook, you can select a graded item in either student grid or item list view and it will take you to the submissions page.
When you open the global gradebook from the base navigation, you will see all courses that you are currently teaching. Clicking the name of the course will open the course gradebook. Clicking on an item's name will take you immediately to the submissions page for that item.
This gradebook is in item list view. Accessing an item to grade is as simple as clicking the name in the table.
The submissions table will include the learners' submission status, grade unit, and post status. The top column summarizes the total number of submissions received, the number of submissions that need to be graded, and how many can be posted. From this page, instructors can post all grades at once by selecting the post all grades button. Use the search field to locate an individual learner or use the learner status or grading status drop-down menus to filter the submissions.
Sorting
You can also sort the assignment submissions by student name, grade, or grading status to help you keep track of your students' work.
Messaging
From the submissions page, you can send a message to your students, especially those who haven't submitted their work yet. You can also send out reminders. This feature is also available even if you are grading in anonymous mode.
Submission Receipts
You and your students can track when they submit their assignments using submission receipts. Students receive these receipts when they make a submission, and you can look up when the assignment was submitted and how it was submitted. Receipts indicate when a student is late with turning in an assignment.
