Overview
Most operating systems will typically schedule updates and run them automatically as needed. However in some cases you my be requested by IT support to check to see if your computer has pending updates and run them. Below are instructions on how to do this for some common operating systems.
Procedures
Windows 10
- Open "Start" -> Click "Settings" -> "Updates and Security",
- Click "Check for updates"
- OR in the search bar type and then choose "Check for updates"
- Click the Check for updates button.
- You may see a list of updates that say "Download and install" or "Install"
- Click to run these updates.
- Reboot if request. Check again for updates, repeating steps above until no new updates are available.
Windows 7
- Open "Start" -> Type "Windows Update" into the search bar
- Click "Windows Update" from the top of the search results
- Click "Check for updates"
- Reboot if request. Check again for updates, repeating steps above until no new updates are available
Ubuntu
- Open terminal window
- sudo apt update
- sudo apt upgrade
