Creating Assessments
From the home content page, select the plus sign and choose Create to add assessments. Choose between test, assignment, or form.
Assignment Prompt
As you are creating assignments, you will want to make sure you are assessing the intended level of learning.
- Name the assignment.
- Add the directions, images, and content to the Content and Settings box.
- Adjust the assignment settings (to access use the gear icon): due date, grade category, grading, attempts allowed.
- Enable Safe Assign.
Navigation Bar: Use the top navigation bar to make accessing the different components of the assignment easier as you build your assignment. The tabs include Content and Settings, Submissions, and Student Activity.
Status: Set the status for the Assignment. Choose to keep the item hidden or make it visible. If you would like to set specific Show On/Hide After dates, choose Conditional Availability > Date/Time.
Instructions
Enter the instructions for the assignment and upload any files you would like to provide to the learner in order to complete it.
- Question: Add a question as the assignment activity. The questions available for assignments are the same as those for tests.
- Text: The textbox allows you to add the assignment information using the Content Editor.
- File: Drag and drop the file you want to upload with assignment instructions, a sample submission, or any supporting files the learner might need to complete it.
- Media: Add videos and images to help the reader understand what to do with the assignment.
Design these tips so that your learner can print the document for their use.
Assignment Settings
Quick access to the basic Assignment Settings is displayed on the right. To view these settings in more detail, select the Settings icon. Under Details & Information, set the Due Date for the item. If you do not wish to have a due date, then remove the date from this field by selecting it and deleting it. Under Submission Details you can let learners know what type of files they should submit for the assignment.
Optional settings include Prohibit late submissions, to enforce a hard deadline where late submissions are not accepted, or Prohibit new attempts after due date, to prevent learners from starting a new attempt after the due date.
Grading & Submissions: Set the Grade using to indicate how you want the grade conveyed to the learner: points, percentage, letter, and complete/incomplete. If you do not wish to grade the item, then remove the point value from the field by selecting it and deleting it. If you later decide to grade the item, you can click the link to define the grading criteria. Also, determine how many Attempts allowed.
Grade Category: Change the Grade category, by default this is set based on the item created.
Additional Tools: Within the Additional Tools area determine if you will set a time limit, create a rubric, assign groups, or enable SafeAssign.
Select the Save button.
