Rubrics
As an essential grading and feedback tool for instructors, the LMS has a rubric feature within the major assessment tools: assignments, tests, discussions, and journals (if you adjust the journal settings to graded). Assignment-specific rubrics will identify required competencies to be measured as they relate to the assignment criteria. These rubrics are beneficial to both the instructor and the learner when identifying specific items that need to be evaluated. Take full advantage of these easy to use and adapt to your needs.
Pre-plan Your Rubric
Start by choosing what type of rubric you want to utilize. There are several options depending on whether you want to grade holistically, analytically, or point-based. You also want to determine what criteria you want to use to evaluate the efficacy of the learner's work and the levels of achievement you want to implement to distinguish the learner's levels for different criteria.
If you have previously made a rubric for an assessment outside of Blackboard, you can adjust the settings to match the number of criteria and the associated levels of achievement. You can also cut and paste your descriptors directly into the corresponding boxes of the rubric.
Rubrics can be created and modified in a course by editing directly in the activity item or in the Gradebook. Multiple rubrics can be created and utilized within a course, giving instructors the flexibility to associate rubrics to items based on specific criteria.
Creating Rubrics From an Assessment
When you create or edit an assignment, test, or discussion, you can create a new rubric. You can associate an existing rubric unless you've already graded the item. You may associate only one rubric to each assessment or discussion.
Step 1: On the assignment, test, or discussion page, select the Settings icon to open the Settings panel.
Step 2: In the Additional Tools section, select Add grading rubric > Create New Rubric.
Step 3: Choose an already existing rubric and edit it, create a new one.
Step 4: Make your design choices and select Save. Edit the title, criteria, and levels of achievement to meet your needs.
From the Gradebook
You can create, edit, copy, delete, and review existing rubrics from your Gradebook.
To access rubrics in your Gradebook, select the Settings icon.
In the Gradebook Settings panel, existing rubrics are listed in the Course Rubrics section. Use the steps in the preceding section to create a rubric.
