Student Overview
Use the Student Overview page to learn more about one of your students, their engagement in the course, send the student a direct message, and generate notes to remind yourself of important information such as accommodations. The page has three tabs to categorize the information: Grades, Progress, and Notes.
The Student Overview's header includes general information about an individual student:
- Name
- Date last accessed the course
- Overall grade (if this feature has been toggled on)
- Accommodations for due dates or time limits
- Other information provided by student
Access Student Overview
You can access the Student Overview through the following locations:
- Students tab in Gradebook
- Roster
- Messages
- Discussions
- Course Activity report
To arrive at the Student Overview, select a student's name in one of these locations.
Grades
Under the Grades tab, you will see a list of course items, their due date, status, grade, and feedback. Select the ellipsis icon to exempt any item from being graded for that specific student.
Select anywhere in the row to bring up a student's submission for any item. You can grade or review the item from this panel. Gradable items will function differently based on the type of gradable item and the settings available for that feature.
Progress
The Progress tab lists course items and provides an icon to let you know how the student has engaged with those items. You are not limited to only seeing the same items a student would see.
Icons represent:
- Unopened, illustrated by a circle icon
- Started, illustrated by a half-filled circle icon
- Completed, illustrated by a green check mark
- Marked complete, also illustrated by a green check mark
Notes
The Notes feature allows you to leave notes for yourself and other instructors in the course about your students. Notes are private and can only be accessed by instructors, administrators, and higher roles. Use notes to help you keep track of accommodations, conversations you have had with the students, and other reminders for yourself.
Select the Notes tab. You can review older notes or add a new note. The most recent notes appear at the top of the list. Select within the Add a note field to create a note.
