Zoom is an online video conferencing and chat tool for conducting classes, events, and meetings.
Getting Access to Zoom
- Webex is the campus enterprise level solution for collaboration and video conferencing online.
- Zoom is an approved software that with approval from your departmental budgetary indvidual, you can purchase a paid Pro account and submit for reimbursement.

What is the difference between a Basic and Pro Licensed account?
- Basic license: Can host meetings with up to 100 participants. If 3 or more participants join, the meeting will time out after 40 minutes. No access to account add-ons such as large meeting, webinar, audio conferencing, or conference room connector.
- Pro license: A paid account can host unlimited meetings without the 40-minute limit. By default, can host meetings with up to 100 participants. Access to add-ons and also have additional features such as cloud recording and the the ability to customize your Personal Meeting ID and more.
Procedures
Setting Up Your Zoom Account -- all accounts start with a free sign-up getting a Basic license.
- Go to https://zoom.us/signup#/signup
- Enter your Birth Year - click Continue
- Enter your RPI email address
- Create a password
Getting a Pro account - requires department budgetary approval
- Once your free Basic account is created and signed in, click on Plans and Pricing.
- Select the Upgrade for Pro - purchase annual subscription with credit card
- Submit to Procurement for reimbursement
