Main Gradebook Controls

Open the Gradebook

Open a course and select Gradebook from the course navigation bar. A number may appear beside Gradebook when grading or posting tasks need attention.

Main Gradebook Controls

The numbered areas below identify the main controls to navigate the Gradebook.

1. Gradebook - Opens the course Gradebook. A number may appear when grading or posting tasks need attention.
2. Grid View and List View - Switch between student-and-grade information in a grid and gradable course items in a list.
3. Search and Filters - Find a student or gradable item and narrow the information displayed in the Gradebook.
4. To Do - Opens grading tasks organized into Needs Grading and Needs Posting.
5. Gradebook Settings - Opens course-level options for grading schemas, categories, overall grade, performance settings, automatic zeros, display preferences, and Gradebook upload or download controls.

Choose a Starting Point

Choose the Gradebook control that matches what you need to accomplish.

• Use Grid View when you want to compare grades across students and items or begin with a particular learner.
• Use List View when you want to review the setup or grading status of a particular assignment, test, discussion, Attendance item, or manual Gradebook item.
• Use Search and Filters when you need to locate specific information or reduce what appears in the Gradebook.
• Use To Do when you want to begin with work Blackboard has identified as needing grading or posting.
• Use Gradebook Settings when you need to review course-level grading options.

Search, filters, and view controls change how information is displayed for your review. They do not change the underlying grades or Gradebook setup.

What opens next depends on what you select:

• Select a grade cell in Grid View to open Grade Details for that learner and item.
• Select a learner’s name to open Student Overview.
• Select a gradable item to open its item-level information, submissions, or available actions.
• Select a task in To Do to continue to the related grading or posting workflow.

Grade Details may include submission information, feedback, grader notes, accommodations, and grading or posting controls.
