Grid View displays students in rows and gradable items in columns. Use it when you want to compare grade information across the course, locate work that may need attention, or begin with a particular student and item. The grid can help you notice:
- New submissions that need grading.
- Entered grades that may need posting.
- Empty cells or missing work.
- Grade patterns across students or items.
- Manual or offline grades that still need to be entered.
Grid View provides a broad view of course grades. When something needs closer review, select the related student, item, or grade cell to open more detail.

These columns remain visible as you move horizontally through gradable items, helping you confirm which student row you are reviewing. Each gradable-item column may display the item name, scores, status indicators, and counts associated with grading or posting activity. Select an item heading when you need item-level information or actions. | Cells and column headings may include visual indicators that help you locate work requiring attention. Open Grade Details
Select a grade cell to open the Grade Details panel for that student and item. The panel brings relevant information and actions together without removing the Grid View from sight.
Depending on the item and its current status, Grade Details may include:
- Submission Details — Attempt, submission, timing, or status information.
- Assessment Feedback — Feedback associated with the learner’s work.
- Grader Notes — Notes available to instructors but not learners.
- Accommodations — Course-level accommodations and item-specific exceptions or exemptions.
- Grading and posting controls — Actions for reviewing, grading, or posting the selected result.
The Grade & Feedback panel separates student-facing feedback from private Grader Notes that are visible only to graders.
Open Student-Level Information
Select a student’s name to open Student Overview. Student Overview brings together grades, progress, activity, and other available learner-level information.
Use the student’s name when your question concerns performance across the course. Use a grade cell when your question concerns one student’s work for one particular item.
Grade Details keeps the selected student and item in context while providing access to the information needed for closer reviews.
