Overview
To change your password, you must use the link at the bottom of this article. Changing your password is important for system security and for your own security as well. Your RCS account gives you access to many campus services.
NOTE: You do need to know your current password or have a temporary password to follow this procedure. If you do not know your current password please submit a Support Request providing your full name, RIN and external email address requesting your RCS account to be reset.
While you can do the steps all on the same phone, it is somewhat easier to login to your Microsoft account on a computer in conjunction with configuring Duo Mobile on your phone.
- First make sure you have the Duo Mobile app downloaded on your phone from the App or Play Store

Read through steps and password requirements. Then once you click on the below link, you will go to the Microsoft login.
- Enter your Microsoft login: userid@rpi.edu
- Enter your current or temporary password – click Sign in
- You will be redirected to Cisco Duo to verify your identity
- If you are not enrolled in Duo Multi-Factor Authentication yet, you will need to enroll – click Get started

- If you are not enrolled in Duo Multi-Factor Authentication yet, you will need to enroll – click Get started

- Click Duo Mobile - Enter your phone including country code and area code – click Continue – Yes, it’s correct – Next – QR code appears
- On your phone – open Duo app – click Set up account – Use a QR code – scan code on computer screen – Account is added – click Save
- On computer – should get confirmation Added Duo Mobile – click Continue
- Option to add another device (you can always manage this later) or click on I don’t want to add more devices. (You can add Windows Hello option at this time if you would like) – Setup completed – click Log in with Duo
- Enter verification code from screen in Duo app.
On the My Account screen – scroll down and Click on Change Password

- Enter a New Password (note Password criteria below) – Tab – Retype to confirm your new password
- Click Submit
- If you do not meet the criteria a message will indicate “Your password doesn’t meet policy requirements. Choose a different password.”
- If you enter an acceptable password, you will get confirmation that your password has been changed.
- Your new password will be available to login to RPI systems within a minute.
Password criteria:
- Different from your current password
- Minimum of 15 characters and Maximum of 127 characters
- You cannot use the last 24 passwords
- Passwords must not contain:
- Your RCSID
- Your first name
- Your last name
(in their entirety)
- The password contains characters from three of the following categories:
- Uppercase letters (A through Z)
- Lowercase letters (a through z)
- Numeric (0 through 9).
- Non-alphanumeric characters (special characters): '-!"#$%&()*,./:;?@[]^_`{|}~+<=>
