Overview
Your RCS account allows you access to the campus network (including printers and WiFi), the Internet, the RPI Learning Management System (Blackboard), software downloads, and RPI email. Incoming freshmen students are mailed their account pickup PIN from Student Living and Learning office. Faculty and staff, as well as students if they do not receive their account pickup PIN, can follow the below procedures.

Procedures
Obtaining a new RCS account/userID or password
In person...
Members of the Rensselaer community can pick up their RCS account/userID or new password at the RPI Help Desk during business hours. Be sure to bring your Rensselaer ID card or a photo ID with you. Please refer to http://support.rpi.edu for current hours of availability. Note: faculty and staff must be assisted by administrative staff who are available weekdays 8:30am to 4:00pm ET.
Via Online request or email...
If you have a working non-Rensselaer e-mail address, you can request your RCS userID or new password by Submitting an online Support Request or you can email helpdesk@rpi.edu
The request/email needs to include the following information:
- Your full name
- Your Rensselaer Identification Number (RIN) - 9 digit number starts with 66
- Your personal, non-RPI email address
You will be sent a "Pickup Pin," along with additional instructions for obtaining your new RCS userID and/or password.
Your RCS userID, which is pre-created for you, consists of the first five characters of your last name and your first initial. If duplicate userIDs are created, a one- or two-digit number may be added at the end to make the userID unique. This also makes up your RPI email address: RCSuserid@rpi.edu
A special note about your account when you leave RPI
Planning to graduate or leave RPI? The Help Desk staff has assembled some important information explaining what happens to accounts and e-mail upon leaving RPI.
