Overview
Connecting WiFi printers to RPI’s wireless network, and what is required.
Details
If the printer supports WPA2_Enterprise, then it should work on the standard wireless network using your RCS account and password.
Our standard wireless network (rpi_wpa2) requires devices that support WPA2_Enterprise. Most WiFi printers only support WPA2. There are a couple of solutions you can try:
- Use the Ethernet port on the printer.
- Use the USB port on the printer.
- Use Bluetooth or a USB-to-Bluetooth adapter.
- Use a desktop as a print server, with the desktop bridging the gap between the printer and the network.
If you do use your WiFi-equipped printer with one of the above alternative methods, please disable the WiFi on the printer. That will reduce interference for the devices that do work with the campus wireless network.
Finally, if none of the alternative options work, you may be able to connect the printer to RPI’s Netreg wireless network. This is an option of last resort, as there is no encryption on the Netreg network.
