Overview
RCS Accounts, Microsoft Office 365, E-Mail, Web Pages:
Whether you graduate, do not register for a semester, take a leave of absence or otherwise un-enroll from RPI, your account receives an end date. A pending expiration email should be received at least 14 days prior to your end date.
NOTE for Faculty/Staff: This information is for Students. Staff lose access to their accounts and can not forward email. It is recommended to setup an out of office prior to leaving to notify of your departure and who to contact if business related. Staff who need access to information in SIS should email HRmail@rpi.edu including your full name, RIN and information needed.
Note for all Students/Faculty/Staff: If you want all your phone contacts, you may need to move contacts saved to your RPI email to local contacts. Your local contacts will not be affected.

Access ends six weeks after end date. If you return after a gap in your account, your old password will not work and you will need to request a reset. Submit a Support Request with your full name and RIN. |

Expires six weeks after end date. If you want to retain existing emails, configure an email client such as Outlook and export email to a local file. If you have any personal accounts that are utilizing your RPI email for login or communication, you need to change this information before the six weeks are up. Examples include job sites and social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, etc. Forwarding: You can enable forwarding to an alternative email address that will start once your account expires and last for approximately 9 months. SIS |
Expires at end of 6 weeks from end date. It is recommended to save an unofficial copy/pdf file of your transcript prior to losing access to SIS. After 6 weeks you can request an official transcript: For non-transcript requests: Email Registrar@rpi.edu including your full name, RIN and information you require. |
VPN |
Expires at end date. Access to most RPI resources such as software and other information only available when connected to an RPI network is no longer available. These resources are for active students, faculty and staff. |
How long will my RCS account be active?
Your RCS account will remain active for approximately six weeks after your end date. You will receive e-mail notification, sent to your RCS e-mail account, at least two weeks before your account's expiration. Please refer to the RCS Accounts section of this website for more information about account expiration.
How long will my e-mail address (rcsuserid@rpi.edu) be valid? If someone sends me e-mail using my current e-mail account, will that e-mail be forwarded?
You can continue to access e-mail sent to your rcsuserid@rpi.edu e-mail address until your RCS account expires (6 weeks after end date). Once your account expires, you can no longer authenticate to receive e-mail at that address. However, if you provide an email address to forward on expire, your email will start forwarding when your account expires and last for approximately 9 months. This page also allows alternate email addresses for Commencement and Advancement information which canbe the same address or different..
To save existing emails, configure an email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird and export to a local file. it is also a good idea to back up that file. If you need assistance with this, please submit a support request.
Spam filtering - If you are having your e-mail forwarded, any spam will get forwarded rather than be blocked. If you would like the forwarding stopped, please submit a Support Request.

I have web pages in my RCS account. How long will these pages be visible?
The web pages will no longer be viewable after your account expires.
I have locker space in which I have files and/or data to be shared by others. What should I do before I leave?
Before you leave Rensselaer, please give someone else in your group the appropriate file permissions to administer the /locker space. (If you need help setting file permissions, you can submit a Support Request for assistance.
Note: The locker does not expire, even when the userid to which it is assigned expires. Departments will continue to be billed for the locker disk space until ARC receives explicit notice to expire the locker.
