Overview
Finding Your Network Settings
The information below is designed to help troubleshoot network problems. Anytime you need to contact the Help Desk with a networking problem please include the following information:
- RCS User ID
- Internet Connection (Dial-up, Ethernet, RoadRunner, etc.)
- Where You are Located
- IP Address
- Physical (MAC) Address (not your location)
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
- DHCP Server
- DNS Servers
- Wins Server
Procedures
Windows
- Press the windows button on the keyboard, type cmd, press Enter
- Type ipconfig /all
[ipconfig / all window showing system32 settings]
Linux
- Open a Terminal
- Type /sbin/ifconfig , this will list your IP address as well your physical (MAC) address
- Type cat /etc/resolv.conf , this will display the DNS servers
