Overview
Downloading apps on iOS devices requires an Apple id which requires an email address and your RPI email address is not permissable to use. If you do not wish to use a personal email address, you can create a new free iCloud account for this purpose.
Procedures
To create a free iCloud email (an @icloud.com address), you need an Apple ID, which you can set up through an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac) or directly at iCloud.com; the process involves creating an Apple ID (if you don't have one) and then enabling iCloud Mail in your settings or on the website, which automatically gives you a new, free email address with your account.
On an iPhone or iPad (Recommended)
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on Sign in to your [Device] (if you're not already signed in) or tap your name if you are.
- If you need to create an ID, tap Don't have an Apple ID or forgot it?, then Create Apple ID, and follow the prompts, selecting the option to get a free iCloud email.
- If you're already signed in, tap iCloud, then iCloud Mail (or Mail) and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your @icloud.com address.
On a Mac
- Go to Apple menu > System Settings (or System Preferences).
- Click your name at the top of the sidebar (or sign in if needed).
- Click iCloud, then iCloud Mail, and follow the prompts to turn it on and create your address.
On the Web (iCloud.com)
- Go to icloud.com/mail.
- Sign in with your Apple ID or create a new one.
- Click Create Email Address (if available) and follow the steps to choose your new @icloud.com address.
You get 5GB of free storage for mail, photos, and other data with your new iCloud Mail account, with the option to upgrade to iCloud+ for more storage and features like Hide My Email.
