Overview
Every time changes are made to a MyMediasite presentation and saved, there are server-side processing jobs which need to be completed. Sometimes attempting to make two changes at once will cause a conflict, resulting in one change being made and the other failing.
This article will detail out the different kinds of changes, and how to confirm that the change is complete before moving on to the next operation.
These changes can be completed in any order, however, a typical order to follow might be:
- Record/upload video
- Edit video
- Change meta data on video (name, description, presenter, etc.)
- Add captions to video
- Set security on video to make it available
Details
The information below shows what happens when a change is made and how to know when the change has been completed server-side. This not a how-to on how to upload, edit, set security, or caption a Mediasite presentation. Please refer to the Mediasite documentation on the ITSSC site for more information on those tasks.
Record/Upload Video
Video can be sent to MyMediasite either via the Mediasite Mosaic desktop application, or by uploading to the MyMediasite portal. If you upload directly to the portal, you will be able to see the upload progress in your web browser.
Once it is uploaded, the video will show as Currently Working while the server is transcoding it into a format which can be streamed.
While it is in this status, no further changes should be made until it completes. Once it finished, you will see a thumbnail from the video, as well as a play button. Once processing is complete, more changes may be made to the presentation.
Editing Video
Editing video using the Mediasite Editor will cause the video to transcode once saved, in order to prepare it for streaming.
When you first save the video, you can look at the Video Save Jobs in the upper right of the Mediasite Editor. It will show you your current save jobs, and whether they are still processing (Working) or have completed.
When the save is completed and you can move on to the next text, it will show as Completed.
Editing Details (Metadata)
Editing the meta data (Details) for a presentation should generally be a quick process. Upon saving, you will see a note that it is complete by saying "Presentation Updated."
Adjusting Security
Changing the security should be a quick process. When the security change has been processed a "Success" dialog box will be displayed.
Adding Captions
When captions are added to a presentation, it will take time for the AI to complete the process of generating the captions. Refreshing your presentation page and looking at the Delivery tab will allow you to see if the captioning process is still in progress.
When captioning has been completed, the presentation will show a red "Captions" tag and the delivery will show that it has been enabled and is no longer processing.
You can set your preferences so that you receive an email when captioning is completed for any presentation you own.
